Smart Schools Bond Act Investment Plan to fund interactive whiteboards, computers and more

Interactive whiteboards and desktop, laptop and tablet computers are just some of the instructional technology items to be funded during the next two school years under Schoharie Central School District’s Smart Schools Investment Plan.

The district was allocated $942,067 under the Smart Schools Bond Act approved by New York state voters in November 2014. Projects undertaken using Smart Schools funds are covered in full by the state, with no financial contribution required of a school district.

By upgrading classroom technology as well as network servers and operating software, Schoharie Central School District seeks to: improve learning both inside and outside of school by students of all abilities; provide greater access to information on a global scale; and better communicate with parents and the community.

Schoharie’s Smart Schools Plan also includes professional development for faculty and staff with a goal of ensuring all in the classroom and on campus are proficient in using new technology to teach, learn and communicate.

The district’s Smart Schools funds will remain available until the entire allocation has been used.

“Schoharie’s district technology committee worked hard to evaluate the needs of our students and staff,” said Superintendent David M. Blanchard. “They came up with a plan that will meet those needs well into the future.”
