Come Sing in the Rain with our talented students

Schoharie Central School presents "Singin' in the Rain"

Schoharie Central School Performing Arts is excited to present "Singin’ in the Rain," a screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green with songs by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown, in the high school auditorium March 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and March 26 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for students. Schoharie's shows often sell out, and pre-purchase is recommended by calling  Pam Guest at (518) 295-6635 or 295-6601.

"Singin’ in the Rain" is based on the classic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film from 1952 starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds. The story is a depiction of Hollywood in the late 1920s as silent films were making the transition to "talkies."

Don Lockwood (played by Jackson VanDerwerken) and Lina Lamont (Alex DiNuzzo) are hot items on the screen in silent pictures, but behind the scenes, things are not as they are on the screen. When silent films go the way of the talkies, Lina’s nasal voice does not match her on screen persona.

Don, with his friend Cosmo Brown (Chris Snyder), work with studio head R.F. Simpson (Griffin Sholtes) and director Roscoe Dexter (Emily Stevens) to have Don’s love interest, Kathy Selden (Sarah Wright) talk and sing for Lina to make their talking picture a success.

Full of classic songs and dances such as "Singin’ in the Rain," "Make ‘em Laugh" and “You Are My Lucky Star”, "Singin’ in the Rain" is a must-see for the whole family.

Schoharie’s production is also one of 16 school productions participating in the inaugural High School Musical Theater Awards for the Capital Region. The production and students will be reviewed by a panel of judges, and could be nominated several awards including best ensemble, best supporting actor and best supporting actress.

At least two Schoharie students, and possibly more pending award nominations, will perform at the awards show on Saturday, May 20 at Proctors.

The cast, crew, and creative team of "Singin’ in the Rain" are very excited to be a part of the awards this year. The School of Performing Arts at Proctors and the Times Union, in association with the Broadway League, have partnered to present the event.
