Noah Valvo awarded HMRRC Bill Shrader, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

Noah ValvoSchoharie senior Noah Valvo loves to push himself when he runs to see how much he can improve his time and to place in the top three race finishers.

Right now, Valvo is among the Capital Region's top six high school athletes to be awarded a 2017 Bill Shrader, Sr. Memorial Scholarship by the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC).

The club awards the $3,000 non-renewable scholarships each spring to three male and three female runners from Section II who are planning to attend a college, university or community college on a full-time basis.

"Upon careful review and consideration of applications among a field of highly qualified candidates, the Committee has found [Valvo's] athletic achievements, scholarly accomplishments and extracurricular activities outstanding in ways that exemplify the values and ideals of the Shrader Scholarship program," said Frank Broderick, HMRRC vice president.

In addition to the HMRRC award, a Presidential Scholarship from SUNY Polytechnic will help the talented runner pay for college.

Valvo has been running since 4th grade and has been a member of Schoharie's varsity cross country team and varsity baseball team for five years. He also plays on a men's league baseball team. His favorite running distance is 15K and his favorite race is the Stockadeathon. His running goals include completing a marathon and qualifying for Boston.

The Bill Shrader, Sr. Memorial Scholarships were established in the memory of an outstanding life-long runner and founding member of the HMRRC. The purpose of the program is to encourage and support young runners in their efforts to make running a lifelong part of a healthy life style.
