Learning about feeding the hungry from NY's #1 farmer

3rd graders learn from Mr. Ball

On June 9, New York State Agriculture Commissioner and Schoharie Valley Farms owner Richard Ball visited with 3rd-grade students to talk about farming, food and feeding the hungry.

In September, the students will visit the farm to harvest the butternut squash they started in peat pots in their classroom. The squash will then be donated to the food bank, with some also given to their school's cafeteria.

Members of the Schoharie Valley FFA and retired Schoharie Elementary teacher Ellen Bogardus helped the students with their squash planting.
