Computer Science & Info Systems Team takes silver, again

A team of Schoharie High School students placed second in an annual Computer Science and Information Systems career exploration and competition at Siena College on Oct. 13, holding on to the silver for the second year in a row.

Students Tom Coluccio, Jed Fox, Hannah Meyer and Maddie Phelan competed in the Interested in Mathematics and Problem-solving unAware of Computer Talent (IMPACT) event.

IMPACT is targeted at students who are taking higher-level math classes, but who may not be considering a career in computer science.

Schoharie's team attended lectures on Computer Graphics and Game Maker, and Making Music with Python and then participated in graded activities using what they had learned.

Their next session included Intro to Software Engineering and Computers Unplugged, Image Encoding and then an accompanying graded activity. The day ended with lunch and a panel discussion with college students majoring in computer science.

"Congratulations to our students for showcasing their critical thinking skills," said Schoharie High School Librarian and Advisor Marion Burghart. "We are proud of their accomplishments."
