Schoharie Central School District was well represented at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo festival at Norwich HS on May 12, with 29 vocal students performing.
The students, from grades 5-12, worked with their music teachers to prepare solos and to practice sight-reading for the annual festival, where they are judged and scored on qualities including breath control, tone quality, articulation and stage presence.
All of Schoharie’s vocal students who performed a Level 5 solo scored within the range of 92-100, with several scoring 97 and above; 100 is the top score.
Students who score in the highest ranges are eligible to participate in the Area-All State Festival in the fall as a member of the mixed chorus or women’s chorus.
“We are very proud of our students and their hard work and how they represented SCS with pride,” said music teacher Carrie Styles.”
