Terry is a lifelong resident of the Schoharie Central School District and has been a teacher in the Middleburgh School District for over 30 years. He is a 1986 Schoharie High School graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from SUNY New Paltz and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Sage College. He is a member of the Schoharie County School Boards Association, and represents Area 8 at New York State School Boards Association roundtables. Terry and his wife, Cynthia, have a son and daughter in college.

Daniel Guasp, Vice President

A Schoharie High School graduate, Daniel earned an Associate’s Degree in Computer Information Systems at SUNY Cobleskill. He currently works as the operations manager for AEX Group in Albany. He has been active on the high school Building Leadership Committee and SCS Facilities Planning Committee and is a play set building volunteer. He is a past Schoharie Little League coach. Daniel lives in Schoharie with his wife, Lauren. They have two children. Joshua attends Schoharie Central School and Jaydan is a graduate.

Tara Barton, Member

Tara has lived in Schoharie for more than 20 years with her husband, Shane, and children, Mitchell, Mackenzie and Quin, who attend or have attended Schoharie Central Schools. She is a lifelong Schoharie County resident who was born and raised in Sharon Springs. She holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education from SUNY Cortland and is certified to teach preschool through 12th grade. Tara has been employed by the Sharon Springs Central School District as a teacher since 1991, with an eight-year hiatus when she was a stay-at-home mom.

Brad Bruno, Member

Brad is employed by Union College as a professor of mechanical engineering. He has been at Union in this role since 2002. He teaches courses in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, internal combustion engines and design. He conducts research in aerogel-based catalysts for automotive pollutant mitigation. He has served three-year terms as the chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department and as a member of the Faculty Executive Committee.
Brad is a graduate of Holmdel High School in Holmdel, NJ. He has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Ph. D. degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University. He also holds a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. He has coached some of the Schoharie’s Odyssey of the Mind teams, and has coached T-ball for Schoharie Little League. Bruno has two children that attend Schoharie CSD.

John Florussen, Member

John attended Springwood State High School in Queensland, Australia; holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Film and TV Production from Queensland College of Art; holds a master’s Degree in English from SUNY Albany. He is employed at Capital Region BOCES, where he manages science instructional materials, non-public textbook loans and the inter-library courier service.
In addition to his service as a school board member, John contributes to Schoharie Friends of Fine Arts and the Schoharie Sports Booster Club. He presented on Australian history and culture at “We are Schoharie Fest.” Outside of his contributions to the school community, he is a member of the Gallupville House Association and is a volunteer performer at Lily Park Beverage Fair. John and his spouse, Heidi, have three children who attend Schoharie CSD. Noah is in 8th grade; Kieran is in 6th grade; and Gabriel is in 4th grade.

Laraine Gell, Member

Laraine holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from the University of New Hampshire. She has worked as a high school counselor for the last 24 years, 19 of which have been at Ravena-Coeymans Selkirk High School. She advises young people through academic, personal and college admissions counseling. She works cooperatively with students, family and administrators to serve students through important decision making years.
Outside of her professional career, Laraine served as a member of the EPTSO for nine years and spent five years as secretary. She has served six years as a school board member. With her spouse, Barry, she has two children who attend Schoharie CSD. Jesse is a senior and Annabel is in 10th grade. She is an assistant coach for her daughter’s softball team.

Laura Rosenthal, Member

Laura and her partner, Russell, live in Schoharie. Her son Max attends Schoharie Elementary. Laura is the bureau director for residential health care reimbursement at the NYS Department of Health. She graduated from Lafayette High School and Kenyon College, with a BA in International Studies. She also holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Laura has been active in the community as a Schoharie Free Library board member and president; Odyssey of the Mind coach; a SYStem soccer coach, and is a supporter of Little League.
