Dear parents/guardians,
The district learned on Friday, Dec. 18 that a student enrolled at Schoharie Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. There is no need for contact tracing due to the child’s last date of attendance in school being before the risk of exposure.
In the future, the district will not communicate specifically about any students who test positive for COVID-19 if they were not onsite, or their last day of attendance places them outside the range where contact tracing is necessary. Please note that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive or who is presumed to be positive.
Since the start of the school year, the district has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all portions of our school building that are in use by students and staff, in accordance with guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the CDC.
