A Schoharie student was among those getting a recent lesson in hydraulics.
A contingent of business partners and educators from SUNY Cobleskill shared their expertise on all things hydraulic during a daylong symposium on the Schoharie Career and Technical School campus.
Bob Rowe of Finke Equipment, Jon Griffin of Nortrax Equipment joined SUNY Cobleskill’s Tim Gregoire, Ed Wallace and Rob Cross in discussing hydraulics in heavy equipment with students in the Construction/Heavy Equipment Program.
They led students in a classroom discussion as well as a series of stations using a Bobcat 435 excavator, Bobcat S630 and John Deere 450K.
Capital Region BOCES Business Liaison Nancy Liddle said the event was designed to give students real life experiences and allow them to gain knowledge from, and network work with, employers in their programs of study.
“The real world experiences that were provided to the students were eye-opening as students make choices on their future careers whether in construction or heavy equipment or both,” stated Construction Teacher David Doherty.
“I really enjoyed learning more about Hydraulics. I never knew there was so many parts,” said Remington Lawyer, a junior in the program from Schoharie High School.
