Cutting to the core of educational value
SCHOHARIE – A Schoharie High School junior may not know exactly what she wants to do for a career, but she knows learning skills that could be used in a career setting is certainly a valuable use of time.
That’s’ exactly why Ciara Savel chose the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Tech program at Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School – to explore career options and build on a skill set that she already finds fun.
“I have liked cooking my whole life. I am not sure if this is what I will do for a career, but I will be better at it because I am going here,” said Savel while cutting a cantaloupe in the culinary lab on the Schoharie CTE campus.
Savel is one of nearly 100 students in the culinary program, which is offered at both the Albany and Schoharie campuses. Students in the two-year program learn the skills necessary to enter the workforce as a chef or pursue additional training in college. Graduates work in restaurants and resorts around the region and beyond, own their establishment and even prepare food for professional sporting events.
