About Us

Schoharie Central School District focuses on preparing students to meet New York State Regents graduation requirements and provides assistance to students struggling to meet the state’s learning standards. A small school atmosphere, caring faculty and staff and an involved community serve students well from pre-K to graduation.

District Overview and History

The Schoharie Central School District enrolls approximately 900 students in pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade and is known for its small-school, caring atmosphere and proud, close-knit community.

While 91 percent of the district falls within the Schoharie County towns of Schoharie, Wright and Esperance, Schoharie schools also serve students living in Middleburgh and Carlisle in eastern Schoharie County; Berne, Knox and Westerlo in western Albany County; Charleston in Montgomery County and Duanesburg in western Schenectady County.

The Schoharie Central School District campus is located on State Route 30, south of I-88, near the village of Schoharie.

The main district building features an interconnected Elementary, Jr./Sr. High School and central administrative office. The Elementary School includes pre-K through 5th grades; the Jr./Sr. High School has grades 6 through 12; and the administrative office includes the superintendent’s office, business office and related staff. A separate transportation building and a variety of athletic fields and facilities round out the campus.

The Center of a Caring and Proud Community

Schoharie schools are the truly center of the community in good times and bad. Schoharie schools offer many opportunities for parents and guardians to become involved in their children’s education and for local residents to enjoy activities from school musicals and plays to sports and community events.

Following tropical storms Irene and Lee, the district served as an emergency operations center, providing shelter for local government offices and first responders and functioning as a central resource point for services for community residents.
