Schoharie Valley FFA members Savannah Traverse and Tyler Lloyd traveled to Madison, WI last week to compete on the international stage at World Dairy Expo.
Considered the “Olympics of the Dairy Cattle Industry,” World Dairy Expo hosts one of the most well known and most competitive dairy shows in the world, with over 1,600 exhibitors and more than 2,000 head of cattle shown.
Tyler competed in both the Senior Fitting Contest with more than 80 competitors and Senior Showmanship with more than 150 competitors from across North America. Tyler skillfully led his heifer to the top ten in his heat of showmanship. While at Expo, Tyler also worked for a renowned Holstein Herd from Johnstown, NY: Elmvue Farms, as part of his Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) through FFA. Tyler was a key member of the crew and team that led 14 cows to top 10 medal placings and 10 top 5 placings in the International Holstein & International Red & White shows.
Savannah traveled to Wisconsin with her leased heifer, Rosita, that she has cared for since 2021 through the Schoharie FFA Dairy Experience Program. The duo has worked hard over the past two show seasons to learn and grow together, culminating in their debut on the colored shavings of World Dairy Expo. Savannah and Rosita were 13th place in the open show and 7th place in the junior portion of the International Ayrshire Show.
Congratulations to both Savannah and Tyler on their extremely successful week at one of the most prestigious dairy shows in the world. Their hard work and dedication to personal and professional growth in agriculture is to be commended.
