The Youth Belonging Leadership Team (YBLT) spent the day in Albany visiting the exhibit, Gordon Parks: I, too, am America at the Albany Institute of History & Art. The exhibit featured a collection of Gordon Parks’ photographs, inspired by a poem by Langston Hughes. Parks grew up in poverty and suffered from discrimination and saw his camera as a weapon for change, saying, “I should use my camera to speak for people who are unable to speak for themselves.”
In addition to viewing the exhibit, members of the YBLT explored a piece of Indian culture through cuisine, enjoying lunch at an Indian restaurantdowntown.
The mission of the YBLT is to create a welcoming and affirming environment at Schoharie Central School.
