The following email was sent to elementary school parents and guardians on Friday afternoon:
Please be aware, due to the COVID-19 school closure, Schoharie Elementary School Trimester 2 report cards will be mailed home beginning Monday, April 13, 2020. Please be on the lookout for one mailing per child in grades K-6 over the following days. For your informational purposes, the marking period closed March 11, 2020. The entry period for inputting grades was extended due to the closure. The report card you will receive reflects your child’s learning in school up until March 11, 2020.
There will be a simplified grading system for the final trimester of school. It is critical that we keep track of what our students are learning so we can best support them now and, more importantly, when we return to school. Therefore, we are implementing a simplified grading system with two categories, as follows.
- Evidence of Learning (EOL) will be used to show that a student has demonstrated learning of essential curriculum based on what was taught and assigned.
- Not Yet Learned (NYL) will be used when a student has not completed assignments, or work completed does not yet demonstrate learning of essential curriculum. (Students will be given the opportunity to redo and resubmit work to demonstrate learning.)
Starting on Monday, April 13, students’ engagement with their teachers and school work will be assessed using the grading system above as part of Trimester 3. We will take into account good faith efforts of students to complete work. Moving forward, it is very important that students complete the assignments given and check-in with their teachers regularly. We understand the challenges everyone is facing, please remain in contact with your child’s teacher. We are already preparing to adjust our instruction when we return to school and ensure that all students are supported to succeed.
Thank you,
Andrea Polikoski
