Schoharie High School junior Fletcher Griffin was formally recognized as a lieutenant in the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Explorers 939 program at an Oct. 5 pin ceremony.
Part of the nationally recognized Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life Explorer program, the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Explorers 939 program fosters education and development of responsible youth in Schoharie County communities.
Through the program, the Sheriff’s Office works with area youth to not only teach them about law enforcement, but also to encourage leadership, mutual respect and team building. Participants learn about positive character traits, career development and life skills that enable them to make ethical choices and achieve their full potential.
The program is overseen by a volunteer group of Sheriff’s Office employees and parents program participants, and it is funded solely by donations.
