On March 5, our Elementary and High School Odyssey of the Mind teams competed against other teams in the Capital District Region 7 Tournament.
The OMers have worked hard over the past several months to solve their selected problems. Their dedication paid off, as both teams came in 3rd place giving them the opportunity to advance to the State Tournament to compete on March 26 in Syracuse at the State Fair Grounds.
Congratulations to the Elementary Division One OM team members: Hannah, Brooke, Ella, Ivy, Mason, and Kodi; and to our Division Two High School OM team members: Nadia, Sophia, Isaac, Kaycee, and Olive. These students should be proud of their work, their creative minds, and their ability to always “think outside the box.” Thank you for representing Schoharie so well.
A huge thank you also to our co-coaches, Mrs. McKenney, Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. DeJong, and Ms. Rehberg for volunteering their time to oversee the student teams. Best of luck to the teams as they prepare and put their additional touches on their performances and stretch their thinking capabilities as they practice Spontaneous problems to be as creative as they possibly can be.
Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. Imagine being faced with a problem that requires an original solution. It can be frightening. Now imagine not being afraid to solve that problem – that is what OM members learn. This skill and self-confidence will carry over to all areas of their lives. OM brings the classroom to life as students apply what they learn and combine it with their interests and passions to solve our unique open-ended problems. OM also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. This international program is designed to help students at all learning levels grow as individual learners, grow as team members, and to reach their full potential.
